Christie M. Mayer

Magnolias

Christie has been developing techniques to create a new aesthetic in watercolors using absorbent mineral paper made from calcium carbonate–essentially, stone. Her techniques produce an effect that is highly textural, and often appear still wet to the touch. The medium’s natural translucence adds a sense of luminosity to each piece, as though lit from within.

About

Visual Artist

Christie Mayer’s passion for art rests in the discovery of medium. Though our society rewards the niche artisan, there are many among us who would suffocate under narrow restrictions—one medium, one subject, one muse. Christie’s art is process-driven and often exploratory. Her process is organic, and her subject matter is too, composing of a range of nature-based themes from realistic animal and human portraiture to abstract landscape. Christie believes in leveraging the innate capabilities of a given medium but also delights in testing their boundaries. The result may be a painting in charcoal, a detailed watercolor on board, or a landscape made of wool yarn and ink. Naturally curious, Christie enjoys mixing media and often does so with paints, inks, and dyes she has made herself in her studio.

Christie has always been a bit of a renaissance woman. She holds a degree in Industrial Design, has won awards for her work as an evidence-based designer in health care, and has worked as an exhibit designer creating for some of the world’s most distinguished museums and organizations. In addition to her art, Christie enjoys utilizing her expertise as a visual storyteller to assist small businesses with graphic design and marketing projects.
